12-Day Voyageurs

Campers enjoy an immersive canoe-tripping experience, including an eight-day trip through Québec’s natural landscapes.

After preparing at Camp YMCA Kanawana, they take an active role in every aspect of the trip, from navigation and portaging to everyday tasks.

Led by experienced guides, campers develop their canoeing and outdoor skills, independence, team spirit and leadership throughout the adventure.

Additional information

All campers are encouraged to participate and contribute according to their strengths and skills, whether it is by collecting firewood, portaging a canoe, or navigating the way. They will swim, paddle, and explore while learning basic survival and leadership skills as well as canoe safety and water hydrology. Campers also benefit from experiential educational activities to help them better understand, appreciate, and preserve the natural environment.

Campers spend time at camp preparing for their canoe trip, as well as debriefing their trip upon their return.

Please note: For safety purposes, Camp YMCA Kanawana reserves the right to change the length and locations of each trip. These will be determined depending on weather, water, and road conditions, as well as the overall schedule of trips each session.

This is a typical day on a canoe-tripping expedition:
7 a.m.: wake-up
7:30 a.m.: participation in tasks that will also need to be done on the trip, such as gathering firewood and making breakfast
9 a.m.: take down tents and camp site and help pack canoes
10:30 a.m.: paddle
11:30 a.m.: canoe games and rest
12:30 p.m.: lunch on the beach
2 p.m.: paddle to camp site
3 p.m.: put up tents and swimming by camp site
4 p.m.: survival program activity
5:30 p.m.: dinner preparation and participation in trip tasks
7:30 p.m.: stories around the campfire
9 p.m.: teeth brushing and sweet dreams

Please note that this is a generic schedule that will be adapted to each program by our trip guides according to the group's itinerary.

Lights out time also varies depending on the daily activities and the age of the campers.
