YMCA Residences – Temporary Housing

A Safe and Welcoming Place

Since 1931, the YMCA Residences have been offering temporary housing to people in transitory situations. Their mission is to provide a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment, high-quality food services, and access to appropriate support resources.

The residences offer a wide range of welcome and support services and activities, in collaboration with the PRAIDA (regional program for the settlement and integration of asylum seekers) and administered by the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and the Office municipale d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM).

Access to housing is solely through referral from one of these partners, according to their specific eligibility criteria to ensure a safe setting that is suited to each person we welcome.

Did You Know?

In 2024, 6,981 asylum seekers, including 840 children, stayed in residences run by the YMCAs of Québec. These temporary housing services support individuals in transitory situations and are offered in partnership with the Programme régional d’accueil et d’intégration des demandeurs d’asile (PRAIDA).

In addition, a record 174 young people participated in the Welcome and Discovery Zone (ZAD) program, leading to the opening of two new service points in Montréal, for a total of five.
