TAPAJ Saint-Roch: Paid Day Work Opportunities to Promote Social Inclusion and Overall Health

TAPAJ Saint-Roch, a component of the Saint-Roch YMCA’s Dialogue program, provides alternative work opportunities to people struggling socially or personally and who are removed from traditional employment structures. Through the program, participants can get involved in the community and perform tasks to enhance the neighbourhood. In addition to encouraging citizen participation in community life, these day work opportunities are a lever of intervention and a tool for action and socialization.

How Do These Day Work Opportunities Work?

First, participants are supported “elbow-to-elbow” by community workers during their work days. Then, they are encouraged to become more independent and to take other steps to improve their overall health (job search, health-care services, psychosocial support, etc.).

Participants get an adapted work premium for the days worked and benefit from a stimulating and productive social environment, providing them with a change of scenery and the opportunity to build their confidence.

The TAPAJ team constantly follows up on interventions with organizations and participants to ensure everything is running smoothly.
