Street Work and Outreach Work: To Help People Overcome Barriers
The YMCA’s Intervention Approach
Our work approach is humanistic, holistic, and needs-centred with a positive vision of the participant. We look at the person as a whole and work with them voluntarily and at their pace. We believe every person has the power to act on their own life and an intrinsic desire to fulfill their potential. Our approach considers the difficulties that could interfere with social and community reintegration, specifically personal and systemic barriers.
As a major player in the field, we want to avoid further stigmatizing people experiencing homelessness. We therefore also offer awareness training to key players so they can become agents of change.
