Compensatory Work: Another Way to Pay Off Your Fines

The Compensatory Work program gives citizens who are unable to pay their fines the opportunity to get involved in the community. They can pay off their fines by performing different kinds of tasks for free at a non-profit, para-municipal, or para-governmental organization. The program facilitates participants’ integration into these YMCA-accredited organizations so participants can complete their compensatory work hours while helping the organizations carry out their mission.

A Program With a Big Impact

  • The Compensatory Work program really helps out our organization. Often, it has allowed us to bring a certain degree of stability to our services. It also encourages participants to become involved in their community. Many of the participants have stayed on as volunteers within our organization after their compensatory work experience.

  • Participants help me keep building operations running smoothly. It’s just me and one other custodian. If it wasn’t for the program, I wouldn’t be able to make it.
