The YMCA Dialogue Program

Helping People Experiencing Homelessness and Promoting Social Cohesion

"The city centres of Montréal and Québec City have a high concentration of unhoused people. These people are more likely to be affected by a range of issues related to social profiling, substance abuse, mental and physical health, and legal trouble.

In 1997, the YMCA created Dialogue in collaboration with Tandem Montréal and Destination centre-ville to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The program’s mission is to help them gain stability to improve their quality of life.

We work with local community and institutional resources, acting as a pivot point to refer, connect, and guide people to their services.

Additionally, when the Saint-Roch YMCA opened in Québec City, we developed Dialogue programming that meets the specific needs of the area. "

The Program’s Impact: In His Own Words

  • Dialogue’s staff really helped me get off the street by supporting me in my endeavours. If they hadn’t been there, I would probably be dead!
