Coop d’initiation à l’entrepreneuriat collectif (CIEC)

What Is a CIEC?

A Coop d’initiation à l’entrepreneuriat collectif or CIEC is a youth cooperative that brings together 10 to 15 teens aged 13 to 17 to set up a cooperative business over the summer that offers services to the community.  

The CIEC’s direction and management are handled by participants who are supervised by YMCA staff members.  

Participants experiment with democratic decision-making, learn about cooperative management, and gain.

Registration for the program is done in the spring. Youth teams from participating YMCAs offer information sessions and visit schools in their boroughs. If you know a teen interested in a YMCA CIEC, you can write directly to the youth team in your borough.
