How We Aim to Help People in Vulnerable Situations or With Criminal Records

Transition Aims to Develop Social Skills and Know-How

The program supports people with criminal records or people re-entering society and aims to empower them. Participants are either referred to the program or join voluntarily in YMCA centres or at detention centres.

Our services address 4 major needs:

The Ymca’s Social Reintegration Programs

Espadrille: group intervention

Support and guidance for adults serving a sentence in a detention centre or a conditional sentence in the community, to successfully reintegrate society by helping them develop their social skills.

La Boussole: specialized job search service

A free and bilingual service for adults with criminal records to help them find a job or go back to school.

TAPAJ Saint-Roch: paid day work opportunities

Encourages people from all walks of life who are experiencing personal or social difficulties to take part in tasks to enhance Québec City’s Saint-Roch neighbourhood and get involved in their community.

Espadrille: community monitoring

Offers adults convicted of a crime under provincial law  support to achieve the social reintegration goals set out in their correctional intervention plan. In addition to ensuring that they comply with the conditions of their court order, community workers direct them to resources specific to their needs and support them in adopting socially acceptable behaviour.

Compensatory Work program (CWP)

Provides people who cannot pay their fines and tickets an opportunity to work off their debts at an accredited and approved non-profit organization.
