The 4th edition of the YMCA Challenge was a great success, thanks to the mobilization and dedication of participants, volunteers, partners as well as the organizing committee. Together, we raised close to $150,000.
Together, we raised more than $150,000, including the Cycle-o-thons, which were held in a number of centres from May 23rd to 25th: Cartierville, Du Parc, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Saint-Roch, and finally in Westmount.

An extraordinary, rallying event
More than 1,200 people gathered on May 4 to support the Challenge's cause: to raise funds that enable vulnerable youth and families to access YMCA programs and facilities, such as day camps, swimming lessons as well as the Companion program. The impact is tangible: thanks to the money raised in last year's Challenge, for example, 800 young people and families benefited from support and access to services.
The weather did not stop the 1,000 runners from taking part in the event, a record number for this edition!
Highlights of the 2024 Edition:
- 21 partners
- 15 fundraising teams
- 71 volunteers
- 7 warm-up and preparation instructors
- 5 races, 4 warm-ups and 1 solidarity walk
- 2 family sports activities: Zumba and Yoga
- Activities for the whole family: inflatable games, face painting, tie-dyeing - hosted by our YMCA For Peace star, Hamadah - among others!
- Obstacle course
- Photo opportunities with the Montreal Alouettes mascot, Touché!
The Challenge was hosted by Jean Allard, who not only enlivened the event with his dynamic energy, but who also ensured that the everything ran smoothly with timely decisions.

Dedicated and committed volunteers
The success of the Challenge is thanks to the extraordinary involvement and commitment of its organizing committee!
Its president, David Latour, Senior Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer at CDPQ, was able to rally volunteers and partners around the YMCA Foundation's cause.
“Although the YMCA Challenge is a one-day event, its impact is felt throughout the year, helping families in Montreal and Quebec City, as well as introducing young people to the pleasures of physical activity and integrating healthy lifestyle habits. 5,286 km covered, $150,000 raised, and the remarkable support of participants. This is our strength: building healthy, inclusive communities, where every young person has an equal opportunity to thrive, regardless of their situation.”
“I'd like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers, the Foundation team, my colleagues on the organizing committee, and the YMCA staff, who helped put together this great day of running and walking.” - David Latour
