Pointe-Saint-Charles YMCA

The YMCAs of Québec have a long history with the Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood and we want to continue having an impact in the long-term. Since 1860, we have always shown resilience and the ability to adapt to changing times and community needs. We are carrying on in this manner.

Transfer of expertise

The YMCAs of Québec, which is proud to have worked closely with Éco-quartier Sud-Ouest for over 25 years, has chosen to entrust the management of green alley activities to two local organizations.

From January 8, 2024, the Arrondissement will be able to count on the support of two new representatives to carry out the various activities of beautification, greening, cleanliness and raising awareness:

  • Groupe Pro-Vert will take over to support you in your efforts in connection with the South West Green Alleys program;
  • GRAME (Recommendations and Actions Group for a Better Environment) will resume the eco-neighborhood program and organize various awareness and citizen involvement initiatives to promote eco-responsibility in our ways of life.

Our Search for Partners Is Ongoing

In 2019, we started a substantial organizational transformation. We already knew we had to transform several Y centres, including the Pointe-Saint-Charles Y. The pandemic only sped up our reflection.

An important part of this transformation involves reviewing our business model. This includes developing partnerships to maintain ownership of some of our centres —as is the case at the Cartierville and Du Parc YMCAs and Québec City’s Saint-Roch YMCA—redeveloping some centres, or in some cases putting them up for sale.

We launched a public call for partnerships and we are continuing in that sense while exploring all potential long-term scenarios.
