A Safe and Welcoming Place
The YMCA Residences have been welcoming and housing people in transitory situations since 1931. For people going through an important transition, the residences offer a warm place to stay, where they can find their bearings and access services. Most of all, the residences are committed to providing temporary accommodations, food, and a safe place to take a break.
In collaboration with the Programme régional d’accueil et d’intégration des demandeurs d’asile (PRAIDA), which is administered by the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, the residences offer a wide range of welcome and support services and activities, including food. They are only accessible by referral from the above-mentioned institutions to people who are in need of a place to stay.
Did you know?
In 2023, 11,750 asylum seekers in addition to 845 Ukrainian nationals seeking refuge from the war stayed in one of the three residences run by the YMCAs of Québec. This includes 1,000 children.
“Memories of the war are etched in my mind, in my children’s too. The YMCA is like a positive bubble around us where we can finally settle down.”
– Vlada, Ukrainian National and Former Resident at the YMCA Residence
Other Programs Dedicated to Ensuring a Successful Fresh Start
