End of Group Fitness Courses and Physical Activities for Kids in the West Island in December 2025
We would like to inform you that we made the difficult decision to stop offering group fitness courses at the West Island YMCA (Pointe-Claire) as well as physical activities for kids as of December 31, which coincides with the end of the fall session.
This decision is part of a process we started to simplify and better define our service offering to ensure that we can continue to act concretely for the long-term in the communities we serve.
The group fitness courses and physical activities for kids were an important part of the life of the centre. However, they were not financially viable, as they were operating at a loss. This is what led to the decision to discontinue these activities on December 31, 2025.

Yes, that is correct. At the end of the current sessions—Sunday, December 7 for the physical activities for kids and Sunday, December 21 for the group fitness courses—the YMCAs of Québec will be discontinuing these programs at the West Island YMCA.
The group fitness course membership was created after the West Island YMCA was sold to the City of Pointe-Claire in 2021. As such, the West Island YMCA’s sports and fitness offering only included group fitness courses and physical activities for kids, for a total of 15 to 20 hours of classes and activities per week.
This one-of-a-kind format in our network relied on the availability of the city’s sports facilities. In a competitive market such as the West Island, profitability was difficult to maintain, despite the interest of participants and the commitment of the teams.
We are aware that this decision may disrupt your daily life and that of your children. However, we would like to remind you that various solutions are still available. In particular, you can:
Stay active by registering for à la carte YMCA fitness courses in Pierrefonds.
Become a YMCA member in one of our other centres: Cartierville, du Parc, Westmount, and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
Ensure your kids keep moving through the wide variety of physical activities offered in our other centres.
Yes. If a member would like to cancel their membership before the courses end, they can do so at no cost by contacting us. Ideally, members should contact us at least one day before a payment is due. Please note that no administrative fees will be charged in the event of cancellation.
No, as the West Island YMCA will continue to offer physical activities for kids until the scheduled end date of the current session, Sunday, December 7.
The last payments for current memberships will be taken on December 8, 2025. No payments will be taken after this date. Members will therefore have access to group classes until December 21, inclusively. Please note that members do not need to take any action in this regard. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, we invite you to contact us.
