Workshops : Autumn 2024
Foundation Training – Less IS More (English)
We rush through our warm-up and are eager to give our clients the workout they came for. If stability is lacking, injury may occur. Understand the importance of solid movement preparation and incorporating foundational work into your clients’ plans. Giving our clients more load or intensity may not always pay off and can lead to undesired results. Here’s where less is more. Ensure proper form and execution on all foundational exercises and have them master one level before moving on to the next. This ensures they are strong, stable and functional in all movements. This workshop will cover the importance of foundational work and thorough warm-ups and give examples of effective exercises to help improve overall stability.

Motivation – Keeping Seniors FIT (English)
Motivation is key for maintaining senior fitness and well-being. In this 3-hour workshop, we will examine motivation from a psychological, emotional, and physical perspective, and practise an effective motivational approach to fitness training for seniors. In the lecture part of the workshop, we will explore the following:
1. How do we define and understand motivation for seniors?
2. In what ways do seniors lack motivation? What is behind this lack?
3. What motivates seniors to stay more active?
In the practical part of the workshop (2 hours) we will explore:
1. Five long-term (e.g., for the fall session) fitness goals and how they shape your program (e.g., posture, balance, coordination, strength, cardio).
2. Exercise type and progressions. Each group will work with one of the above fitness goals. The task will be to choose exercises and progressions that support this goal.
3. Effective verbal cueing and consideration for chronic disease issues. Include appropriate use of verbal cueing for motivation and offer modifications for chronic disease issues.
4. The handout will provide a guideline for the practical part of the class and serve as a place to write down ideas. A plan with a long-term focus on posture will be included in the manual. We will explore this together before we do the group activity.
5. Each group will share their plans and briefly demonstrate an aspect of the plan.
You will leave this workshop inspired with many practical ideas, exercise progressions, and verbal cues to use in your classes to motivate your clients and keep them coming back for more.

In this session, Simone Samuels will go through some tips and best practices so that you can fine-tune your equity lens when providing your services. Weightlifting: Preparing a Training Program to Develop Weightlifting Methods (French)
In this workshop, we’ll learn how to develop training programs using weightlifting movements (snatch and clean-and-jerk) to help our clients progress based on their goals. We’ll discuss the optimal volume and intensity to set, as well as the right movements and variations to achieve your client’s goals.
Are the weightlifting movements relevant to the objectives set? If so, how many series and repetitions should there be? What training methods should be prioritized? Which exercises are relevant and which are less so? And if my client has any physical restrictions, can parameters be adjusted so they can benefit from these movements?
All of these questions will be addressed in the workshop.
If you’re looking to learn the snatch or clean-and-jerk sequence, we suggest that you sign up for the “Weightlifting Technical Training” sessions given by the same trainer.
