Meet Peace Medal laureates on October 3, 2019
For more than 30 years, the YMCAs of Québec have been proud to recognize individuals and groups that have demonstrated their commitment to peace through community action. This year, one of Québec’s favourite couples, singer Judi Richards and comedian Yvon Deschamps, will receive an honorary medal for their community involvement and work with youth.
Gregory Charles, who also received an honorary Peace Medal in 2016, will host this major event presented by Desjardins.
Along with Judi Richards and Yvon Deschamps, the YMCAs of Québec will honour five other individual and groups of peacemakers. And so, the event will be an opportunity to speak with Serena Lopes, Mistiko Miller, members of ATSA and the Welcome Collective, as well as representatives from Element AI, who will all be awarded a 2019 Peace Medal. Finally, this year’s edition will also mark 20 years of YMCA Alternative Suspension, a program for students who have been suspended from school, which will receive a special recognition.
This event benefitting YMCA children, youth and families is the most important celebration of peace in Québec, and honours those who work each day to build more harmonious communities and a better future for youth in Québec
The following people will also be available for interviews:
- Stéphane Vaillancourt, President and CEO, The YMCAs of Québec
- Brian Bronfman, Co-Chair, Organizing Committee
