The Y at the Journées québécoises de la coopération internationale
The YMCAs of Québec - November 01 2016
How do you think the media influences our understanding of international issues?
The YMCAs of Québec’s Global Initiatives team, along with many other organizations from the Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI), will be asking this question during the Journées québécoises de la solidarité internationale from November 3 to November 12.
More specifically, the Y will examine the issue of mort kilométrique during IMPROBABLE VÉRITÉ, an improvisation activity. In journalism, mort kilométrique is an equation that measures the newsworthiness of an incident based on its proximity: the number of deaths divided by the number of kilometres that separates the news story from its audience. This explains why a person who died in Montréal is more likely to make local news than an earthquake that killed 83 people in Pakistan.
The IMPROBABLE VÉRITÉ activity will take place on Friday, November 11, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the UQAM’s Pavillon Hubert-Aquin. For more information about this activity, please visit the JQSI programming page.
