There’s discovery and action in the air with this program that offers a nice variety of activities for campers who are interested in a bit of everything. Campers will discover how fun it is to be active and participate in physical and artistic activities. They will also complete a weekly financial literacy activity and go on a rewarding outing. Boredom? Sorry, that’s just not in our vocabulary!

Campers will be introduced to various art forms and have the opportunity to cultivate their collaborative spirit and critical thinking skills, in addition to treating themselves to the best present of all: self-discovery!

Does your child love to move and participate in stimulating physical activities? On the agenda: at least 20 hours per week dedicated to playing a sport in addition to camp activities such as group outings and swimming when possible. Your child won’t have time to get bored!

• Track and field:  This discipline combines a wide range of events such as running and throwing, encouraging participants to develop their physical abilities and tackle individual and team challenges. Track and field promotes endurance, strength, speed, and coordination in a stimulating and dynamic environment. 
• Ultimate Frisbee: This team sport, now simply known as ultimate, brings together several skills from different sports. Points are scored in the opposite team’s end zone like in football and players can use a pivot foot just like in basketball. The structure of the game is close to soccer. The game format can be adapted to all age groups to ensure maximum fun and energy.
• PickleBall: In this racquet sports, players on opposite sides of a net hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball back and forth. Imagine tennis just more accessible!
• Breakdancing: This discipline, which combines dance and acrobatics, gives youth a unique way to express themselves through movement. By learning the basic techniques, kids will develop rhythm, flexibility, and confidence.
• Flag football: Inspired by football, this no-contact sport replaces tackles with the removal of a flag belt. Flag football provides youth with the opportunity to discover the rules and strategies of football in a safe manner, all while working as a team and developing their coordination.  
• Rugby: This introduction to rugby allows kids of all ages to discover the sport in a safe manner. The program follows the non-contact flag rugby format so players can learn the basics while running around and having a blast with their teammates.

Our Companion Program aims to offer all children a fun, positive and safe camp experience. We believe that every child is entitled to proper support and understanding, and we strive to successfully include campers with different needs and diverse abilities. We do so by using our inclusive approach when handling unexpected behaviour at camp, as well as by providing companions to children who may need additional support to fully participate in camp life.

Our camp environment provides children with different needs a stimulating and inclusive camp experience, filled with opportunities to create meaningful connections with other.  This same environment also provides an opportunity for all to learn how to accept and embrace everyone’s differences, strengths, and individuality.

Want to help kids have an incredible summer? Then join us! Throughout this training, you will become familiar with the different aspects of camp life: the role of camp counsellors, childhood development, activity planning, creativity, security, teamwork, and more. Throughout the weeks, you will progressively be assigned more responsibilities in our regular camp and you will end your CIT program with an internship in different camp groups, all supervised by our counsellors.

In all, you will participate in 150 hours of theory and practical training and a minimum of 50 hours in charge of a group. During your learning, you will also need to complete an eight-hour first aid training.

Supported by the Association des camps du Québec (ACQ), this renowned program includes 19 training blocks, which will allow you to explore and develop your leadership, organizational, creative, and facilitation skills. In addition to discovering group life, you will have an exceptional camp experience with other participants who share the same interests as you.

The Diplôme d’aptitude aux fonctions d’animateur (DAFA) diploma is required by several camps and recreational organizations, including the YMCA. It is therefore a real asset if you want to work in a day camp or summer camp.
 
Here are three great reasons to sign up for the CIT program this summer:

1. Enjoy an outing and an overnight stay at Camp YMCA Kanawana to experience summer camp first-hand and participate in outdoor activities.
2. Get a two-month membership to the YMCA fitness and sports centres in exchange for summer volunteer hours during your training.
3. The following year, get a priority interview during the Y’s camp counsellor hiring process.

Please note: outdoor activites will be prioritized. If the weather does not cooperate, we will continue camp in one of the nearby schools.
