Campers will have the opportunity to participate in two canoe trips that will allow them to discover two of beautiful Quebec Rivers, admiring stunning views of canyons, evergreen mountain slopes, sandy beaches, and running rapids. The rivers are ideal settings for either a first trip or an experienced paddler’s adventure. This new three-week option includes preparing for a four-day white water trip that will allow them to then partake in the full preparation and participation in an eight-day trip on one of the most challenging rivers in Quebec or Ontario!
All campers are encouraged to participate and contribute according to their strengths and skills, whether it is by collecting firewood, portaging a canoe, or navigating the way. They will swim, paddle, and explore while learning basic survival and leadership skills as well as canoe safety and water hydrology. Campers also benefit from experiential educational activities to help them better understand, appreciate, and preserve the natural environment.
Campers spend time at camp preparing for their canoe trip, as well as debriefing their trip upon their return.
Please note: For safety purposes, Camp YMCA Kanawana reserves the right to change the length and locations of each trip. These will be determined depending on weather, water, and road conditions, as well as the overall schedule of trips each session.
Canoe trips are physically demanding and require a certain level of swimming ability. Kanawana therefore reserves the right to refuse any participant we deem unable to cope with the demands of such a trip.
