A Safe and Welcoming Place
The YMCA Residences have been welcoming and housing people in transitory situations since 1931. For people going through an important transition, the residences offer a warm place to stay, where they can find their bearings and access services. Most of all, the residences are committed to providing temporary accommodations, food, and a safe place to take a break.
In collaboration with the Programme régional d’accueil et d’intégration des demandeurs d’asile (PRAIDA), which is administered by the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, the residences offer a wide range of welcome and support services and activities, including food. They are only accessible by referral from the above-mentioned institutions to people who are in need of a place to stay.
Did you know?
In 2024, 6,981 asylum seekers, including 840 children, stayed in residences run by the YMCAs of Québec. These temporary housing services support individuals in transitory situations and are offered in partnership with the Programme régional d’accueil et d’intégration des demandeurs d’asile (PRAIDA).
In addition, a record 174 young people participated in the Welcome and Discovery Zone (ZAD) program, leading to the opening of two new service points in Montréal, for a total of five.
Other Programs Dedicated to Ensuring a Successful Fresh Start
Providing a safe space is just one variable in the equation for a successful new start. Other programs and services are offered at the Y to ensure every transition, whatever its nature, is a smooth one.
