More than half of the population of Québec has a literacy score below 3, the minimum level of literacy needed to function in Canadian society.
To improve literacy among the children and families who participate in our programs, the YMCA, in collaboration with the Fraser-Hickson Institute, has built a series of “mini” libraries that are regularly supplied with books from the Institute’s collection.
The Fraser-Hickson Library is a privately funded institution that has been providing free library services to all Montrealers since 1885.
