Physical Activities for Kids (3-11 years)

Get your kids moving with our sports courses.

At the YMCA, physical literacy is at the very core of our programs. Through our group physical and aquatic activities for kids, discover how we cultivate a sense of well-being in all participants.


Please note that the programs offered vary from centre to centre. Please refer to the list below.

Registration for the winter session is scheduled as follows:

Priority registration

December 9, starting at 7:00 a.m.:

  • Priority registration for swim lessons, physical activities, and aquatic certifications for children and teens who were registered in the summer session (June 17 to September 1, 2024) or in the fall session (September 16 to December 8, 2024).

General registration 

December 11, starting at 7:00 a.m.: 

  • General registration (open to all).

We offer a range of courses tailored to the abilities of youngsters aged 6 to 11, plus introductory courses for 3 to 5 year-olds.

Grounded in the concepts of physical literacy, classes have been specifically designed to develop not only kids' physical skills, but also their confidence, motivation, understanding and knowledge so that they may develop a desire to move from an early age.

Winter session

This season, physical activities for children will run from January 6 to March 23, 2025 (11-week session - 1 class per week).

Financial assistance

At the YMCA, we want as many people as possible to be able to participate in our programs, so we can offer you financial support adapted to your income thanks to our financial aid. If you are already receiving financial assistance, the rate will be adjusted when you register online.

Activities for 3 to 5 year-olds

Introduction to soccer

Using a fun approach, this course develops a variety of basic movements. Children will play and expend energy in this course full of physical activity. They will mainly learn to control the ball, kick over short distances, and pass during fun activities.

Introduction to sports

Using a fun approach, the Multisport course helps children develop various fundamental and social skills. Throughout the course, they will tackle agility courses, participate in gym activities, cooperative games, and touch-and-go (TAG) games.

Activities for 6 to 11 years-old

Basketball 

This course initiates kids to sports skills through educational activities and modified games. In addition to basketball basics, kids will practice dribbling, passing, and layups during fun activities and games.

Soccer

This course initiates kids to sports skills through educational activities and modified games. In addition to soccer basics, kids will learn footwork such as feints and offensive techniques during fun activities and matches.

Martial Arts

The class is a blend of mixed martial arts, with a particular focus on karate, jiu-jitsu, kick-boxing and Muay Thai. Your child will learn the basics, while developing their self-esteem, endurance and flexibility in a fun and challenging environment.

Badminton

Through educational activities and tactics, this course helps children develop various fundamental skills. Throughout the course, children will have fun and learn about various hitting techniques and movements in simples and doubles.

Hip-hop

This course introduces kids to basic movement using a fun approach. In addition to hip hop basics, they also learn to move, dance, keep their balance and develop artistic gestures during fun activities.

Multisport

Using a fun approach, the Multisport course helps children develop various fundamental and social skills. Throughout the course, they will tackle agility courses, participate in gym activities, cooperative games, and touch-and-go (TAG) games.

Upcoming registration dates for 2025 sessions

  • Priority registration is open exclusively to parents whose children participated in one of the two previous physical activity sessions.  
  • General registration is open to all parents who want to register their children for our physical activities.
