The YMCAs of Québec's President and CEO to retire in December 2024

YMCAs of Québec - May 30 2024

After more than 20 years of dedicated service and exceptional leadership, Stéphane Vaillancourt has announced his intention to retire from his position as President and CEO at the end of the year.

Stéphane will continue to lead and support the organization until December, working closely with the Y team to advance ongoing projects. In the meantime, members of the Board of Directors will work to recruit and appoint his successor.

Under Stéphane's leadership, the YMCAs of Québec expanded their reach within the province and beyond, adapting to the changing needs of the communities we serve in order to strengthen our impact and ensure our sustainability. We would like to highlight his commitment to our mission and express our deep gratitude for his vision and dedication over the years.

Thank you, Stéphane!

A word from Stéphane

I am retiring this year, and it is with some excitement that I share this news today! For me, these 22 years with the YMCAs of Québec have been incredibly meaningful and fulfilling.

I believe the timing is right. My departure will come at a time when we are wrapping up our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan. Since our work on the Y’s 2026-2030 strategic plan will begin in January 2025, by passing the torch in December, this will allow my successor to settle into their new role, instill their vision and launch the next strategic planning exercise.

I take this opportunity to thank you, for choosing the Y, for supporting our programs and sharing our values meant to strengthen our communities. Each of you has played a vital role in driving positive change and ensuring our YMCAs across the province thrive. You are an integral part of our Y family. Your generous time and hard work have helped us transform countless lives.

While I may be stepping down in December, my connection to the organization will remain strong as I plan to become the Y’s 551st volunteer once I retire! One thing is certain, I will leave my current role, but the Y will never leave me. I look forward to crossing paths with many of you in the future within the broader YMCA community!

Yours sincerely,
