“When I was 11 years old, the kids at school were judging me. I already had diabetes. They would tell me “you’re fat” and “you’re black”. I was crushed. The Youth Zone coordinator offered me comfort. Now I am 14. So much has changed since then.
I am no longer afraid to create bonds with people.
I am trying to be healthier and the Youth Zone activities keep me on the move. I even get along better with my mom, who is raising my brother and me on her own. The Youth Zone means family to me.”
