Star Leadership Program - Mixed levels
Building on the strong aquatic skills acquired in the Star Program, swimmers in the Star Leadership Program aged 6 to 15 will continue to improve their confidence and abilities in the water. They will develop their fitness and basic first aid skills, and learn how to safely help others who are in trouble in the water. Star Leadership swimmers will also continue to have opportunities to master more advanced swimming techniques and explore competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo and aquafitness.
In the first level, Star 5, swimmers will learn the elementary butterfly stroke and acquire skills in Rookie First Aid, Ranger H20 Proficiency, and Ranger Recognition and Rescue. They will also learn positive teaching techniques and how to create and teach a game, and practice swimming 500 metres using a combination of strokes.
In the second level, Star 6, swimmers will learn the particularities of advanced strokes, how to use the ‘EGGS’ principle, and practice swimming 600 metres. They will also learn skills in Ranger First Aid, Star H20 Proficiency, and Star Recognition and Rescue.
Finally, in Star 7, swimmers will learn about rescuing a submerged victim as well as water rescue and first aid situations, and explore how to teach swimming and water safety. They will also master skills in Star First Aid in addition to improving their endurance and power by swimming 400 metres in 12 minutes.
