Does the building still belong to the YMCAs of Québec?
In July 2021, we announced that the West Island YMCA building was officially sold to the City of Pointe-Claire. Concretely, this means the building now belongs to the City, but we will continue to offer community programs as well as group fitness courses on the site.
On March 8, 2022, the City of Pointe-Claire unveiled the official name of the centre: the Olive-Urquhart Sports Centre pays tribute to the city’s first and only female mayor.
Why was the YMCA’s logo removed from the roof?
When the YMCA building was transferred to the City, various renovation work was undertaken, particularly upgrading to code standards as well as the sanding of the floors, painting, certain renovations to the locker rooms, the removal of the YMCA’s branding in some areas, etc. The YMCA’s logo will coexist with the City’s at the entrance and lobby throughout the duration of the partnership.
