Two Du Parc YMCA youth were rewarded at the Gala de la persévérance scolaire du Fonds 1804

Du Parc YMCA - July 22 2016

On June 4, Nolséko Jean-Pierre and Shannon Charles—two youths from the Du Parc YMCA Youth Zone—were rewarded during the Gala de la persévérance scolaire du Fonds 1804.

The two laureates also received the Médaille de la persévérance and signed the city of Montréal guest book.

“We are very pleased that out of the four people we nominated, two were selected”, noted Carla Kirche, Du Parc YMCA Youth Worker. “All four of these young people are equally deserving and have had to overcome personal and academic hardships, but the Fonds 1804 judges have to make their selections”.

“I am extremely proud to receive this medal and scholarship”, said Shannon, age 15. “This medal is for all the people who believe in me and my abilities: the youth workers, my teachers and my family. The medal will motivate me to do even better in school and life in general. Never give up, even when the going gets tough!” she stated.

As for Nolséko, he was philosophical about the recognition and took the news in stride: “Putting together the application for my nomination was really beneficial. It allowed me look back at my journey and realize the successes I have had, small victories that I didn’t necessarily appreciate.”

The Du Parc YMCA would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the two laureates, and to thank the donors who support the Youth Zone and the Fonds 1804. The awards will help Shannon, Nolséko and all the others to become well-rounded adults who will be better prepared to face society’s future challenges!
