Leadership Programs

Are you ready for an experience that will change your life?

Providing an environment that fosters the development of value-based leaders is the foundation of all our leadership programs. They emphasize development through experiential learning, responsibility, adventure and friendship.  Participants will emerge with new skills in child care, camping, program planning and outdoor survival. Whether you want to become a counsellor, a canoe guide, program staff or you simply want to have an incredible experience, we have a program that is right for you!

Please Note: Participants applying for the following programs will be interviewed. Please take careful note of the application process below. At camp, all Leadership program participants are referred to as “LITs.” (Leaders-in-Training).

Applying for a Leadership Program

DEADLINE: January 31, 2018

  1. Complete the Online Registration for the desired Leadership program. Please note: a full refund will be given should a participant not be selected for the requested program.

  2. Tell us, in the most creative way possible, why you want to take part in a Camp YMCA Kanawana Leadership program. Let us know what you are most looking forward to learning, how you think the program will help you in the future, and what you have to offer as a leader at Camp YMCA Kanawana. Submissions could include songs, videos, drawings, creative writing or other unique creations. All submissions must include the following:
  • Name
  • Age
  • Leadership program of choice

Submissions can be in English or French and should be sent by email to programmes.kanawana@ymcaquebec.org (subject heading: LIT Application), or by mail to 1440 Stanley Street, 1st floor, Montreal, QC, H3A 1P7.

Upon completion of the steps above, you will be contacted to have a group and/or individual interview in person. For those people not from Montreal, the interview can be conducted over the phone or through Skype.

Decisions will be made within 2-3 weeks after all interviews have been completed. Participants will be notified by email.

Please note: Camp YMCA Kanawana’s leadership programs aim to prepare our young leaders to work in the world of camping, as well as to teach them to work in teams with wide range of individuals with different backgrounds. Living spaces will be arranged according to the group’s development and the needs of the participants throughout the program. For this reason, cabin buddy requests will not necessarily be taken into consideration when the leaders assign tent and cabin groups. LITs are encouraged to speak with their leaders if they have any particular concerns or needs related to their living space for the summer.
