Outdoor Education Programs

Camp YMCA Kanawana proudly offer its beautiful, natural landscape and eco-friendly facilities to French and English school groups from across Canada in the spring (mid-May to the end of June) and fall (mid-August to Thanksgiving).

Why Bring Your Group to Kanawana

Kanawana is a lush natural environment just 45minutes from Montreal.  Situated on 3 private lakes in the heart of the forest, Kanawana is an idyllic setting for groups interested in learning environmental awareness, sustainable development and cooperation. Our outdoor eudcation programs focus on nature connection, while creating a bond with your class. We build a program especially for your group, according to your needs.

Our Facilities

All of our facilities at Camp YMCA Kanawana are eco-friendly and sanitary.  We offer heated cabins that are nestled into the landscape and can house up to 12 campers.  Teachers and adult chaperones will benefit from semi-private housing, and meeting and training rooms for their group activities.

Our 3 private lakes and 550 acres of land enable us to do many nature connection activities. Our site includes a beach and swimming area, as well as a boating area with canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and rabaskas. We also have a 30-foot 4-wall climbing tower and a low ropes course for team-building activities. We offer a multitude of other activities such as archery, arts & crafts,  initiative games, campfires, and much more!

Our qualified and enthusiastic staff members, certified in First Aid and CPR, are chosen and trained according to the Quebec Camping Association  and YMCA standards. Throughout your stay, we offer certified lifeguards, program specialists, equipment, and group supervision, including overnight, if required. We offer a personalized experience with a maximum of 10 campers per counsellor for overnight groups and 15 campers per counsellor for day groups.

Our food services team provides hearty, healthy, well-balanced meals to give campers the energy they need for an active day. We ensure that optimal nutritional standards are met for each meal, by working with Tremplin Santé  and following the Quebec Camping Association standards. Our menu is approved by a registered dietician. We also offer options for vegetarians and for those with allergies or food restrictions.

Outdoor Education Philosophy

We believe that camp should be a place where all feel safe and included.  Our beautiful outdoor setting is an ideal environment for campers and staff alike to discover and foster their strengths and interests while having fun and creating lasting friendships. Our Outdoor Education philosophy is driven by a desire to instill a love of nature, and respect of self in our campers and staff so they become active caring members of their community.
