Teaching your kids how to be active is just as important as teaching them how to read or write!

The YMCAs of Québec - May 03 2017

A few weeks ago, La Presse ran the following headline: ‘Kids’ Health: We’re Heading for a Disaster’.

Children should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. But in reality, 91% of youth don’t.

The ParticipACTION Report Cards on Physical Activity for Youth are very clear:

  • Kids don’t walk to school anymore.
  • They’re too tired to move.
  • They’re spending less time playing outdoors.
  • They’re spending more time in front of a screen.

Obesity is expected to be the pandemic of the 21st century. A real public health problem lies ahead. What kind of future will our kids have?

Teaching your kids how to be active is just as important as teaching them how to read or write! At the YMCA, we're getting kids and families moving. They are developing the confidence, motivation and skills—and above all, the love of movement!—to stay active throughout their lives and succeed in school and life.
