In celebration of Canada’s sesquicentennial, the YMCA is proud to launch the LocalMOTION Challenge to encourage all Canadians to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and connect to their community.

The LocalMOTION Challenge is an interactive campaign that encourages Canadians to participate in online activities and in-person events across Canada. You can participate every week from February to July 2017 for the chance to win a number of prizes, including the Grand Prize: VIA Rail’s The Canadian Trip.
In fact, did you know that the history of the YMCA is closely tied to the development of our national railway? Railway YMCAs were opened in partnership with railway companies, providing recreation, literacy programs, reading rooms and accommodation to railway workers. Growing from six Associations scattered along railways in 1900 to nineteen in 1920, several of these YMCAs are still active today.
