Kent Nagano to Receive a YMCAs of Québec Peace Medal

The YMCAs of Québec - September 21 2017

On September 20, the YMCAs of Québec revealed its 2017 Peace Medal finalists at an event celebrating the International Day of Peace. Kent Nagano also received an honorary YMCA Peace Medal. Through his professional and community work, Kent Nagano shares his love of music and young people.

Here are our laureates:

  • Laurent Champagne, recognized for his involvement in the social reintegration of former inmates
  • the members of the No Hate Speech Movement, which helps youth become better citizens
  • the Youth Services of the YWCA Montreal, which actively combats violence against women
  • Destination Centre-Ville, which promotes harmonious living and social reintegration
  • the creators of Radio Dodo, a station that broadcasts stories across battlegrounds and refugee camps to soothe children.
  • the initiators of Balade pour la Paix, a popular exhibition celebrating Montréal’s 375th anniversary with a message of peace and tolerance.

Hosted by Geneviève Borne, the award ceremony took place during the YMCA Peace Medal gala dinner presented by Desjardins, the most important peace event in Québec for the benefit of children, young people and families at the YMCA.

Following the footsteps of past laureates, such as Grégory Charles, Simple Plan, Senator Roméo Dallaire and Michèle Thibodeau-Deguire, the YMCA Peace Medal finalists remind us that there are exceptional people who are committed to peace in Québec.
