The YMCA offers a warm welcome and a safe haven to refugees and asylum seekers who arrive in Montréal. We give them a place to stay at the YMCA Residence until they find a permanent home. We also help refugees and asylum seekers integrate into society by providing accompaniment services, information workshops, recreational activities and conversation workshops as well as psychosocial support through PRAIDA. At present, we are waiting to hear how many Syrian refugees we will welcome at the YMCA.
Will my donation to the YMCA help Syrian refugees?
By donating to our Refugees Fund, you are directly helping refugees from many countries, including, but not limited to, those from Syria. Click here to make a donation.
Does the YMCA need clothing donations?
Not right now. Our clothing supply is currently full thanks to a clothing drive organized by PRAIDA (Programme régional d’accueil et d’intégration des demandeurs d’asile, which is managed by the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal).
Does the YMCA Residence need volunteers?
Not right now. We received many applications over the last few hours and these should cover our immediate needs.
We will re-evaluate if we need to organize another clothing drive or to recruit more volunteers later on. We invite you to check our website for any future developments.
Thank you all for your support and your generosity towards refugees.
