Gym Sports Instructor: Basketball 18+ / Westmount


Reporting to the Coordinator, Health and Fitness, the Basketball Instructor’s main responsibility is to ensure that the gym’s basketball activity runs smoothly and efficiently. The instructor will help participants set up and take down equipment and impart their general knowledge about the sport’s techniques and rules. The instructor  will supervise the activity for its duration while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants, encouraging positive interactions with YMCA members, and promoting respect and cooperation.


  • Creates a safe and welcoming environment for all participants by enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Facilitates interactions and conversations between participants.
  • Understands emergency protocols, reporting of accidents, and evacuation procedures.
  • Handles complaints and problems with courtesy and diplomacy.
  • Follows the activity’s scheduled start and end times, and puts equipment back after use.
  • Keeps participation statistics throughout the session.
  • Maintains open communication with the Coordinator.
  • Notifies the Coordinator immediately of any injuries, whatever their degree of severity, and of damaged or broken equipment, or equipment that may present a danger to participants.
  • Adheres to the YMCA’s policies and procedures on the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy in their position and in the Association, and participates in fundraising activities / events.


  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be bilingual
  • Have CPR – level A/AED certification
  • Have no criminal record in connection with employment
