With two other camps in addition to the nine in the Montréal area, and new programs to satisfy all passions.
Montréal, May 8th, 2024 – With the sunny season just around the corner, the YMCAs of Québec are preparing to welcome hundreds of young people to their camps to once again offer them an unforgettable summer. New for 2024, parents will have the choice of registering their children at the YMCA Concordia Science and Engineering and Kanawana Adventure camps.
“We are pleased to open the 2024 day camp season and look forward to sharing all the new things we have for our campers. They will benefit from activities in nature, scientific experiments and artistic workshops... all in the caring and inclusive spirit of the YMCAs of Québec’s camps.” says Jennifer Pelletier, Day Camp Director.
An unforgettable summer begins at the YMCA!
The YMCAs of Québec have always put youths at the heart of their actions. The Y has been running day camps for over a century. The goal is to combine physical activity and fun to promote participants’ development of healthy lifestyles. Education is not an afterthought, and youths are encouraged to develop their decision-making and problem-solving skills. All in a fun and inclusive environment where everyone feels accepted, with a strong sense of community.
Kanawana Adventure
This new program, given in English for children aged 5 to 12, is offered at our summer camp site in the Saint-Sauveur region, in an exceptional natural setting. Youths will be able to explore nature and take part in plenty of outdoor activities (swimming, canoeing, kayaking, archery, visual arts, etc.). Participants will also find the Y camps’ renowned unifying atmosphere.
“This year, we are offering youths an immersion in nature, with activities in the forest and on the water so that they can recharge by exploring a magnificent site. They will learn forest survival skills, water sports, and be free to explore their artistic side. We look forward to seeing them have this unique experience!” adds Marie-Pierre Lacasse, YMCA Camp Kanawana Director.
A camp for budding scientists!
Offered thanks to a partnership with the namesake university, YMCA Concordia Science and Engineering presents two programs. The first, Science and Engineering (ages 5–12), aims to introduce youths to engineering and computer science through a wide range of activities, experiences and visits.
The second, STEAMpunks (ages 13–15), focuses on fostering creative, technical and interpersonal skills through hands-on workshops, laboratory visits, physical activities and field trips designed and guided by university professors.
Enriched programs
With this year’s new additions, the Y enhanced other programs to provide an ever-enriching and educational experience for participating youths.
The YMCA Concordia Fine Arts Camp’s theme has been enhanced and is an opportunity to reveal youths’ artistic sensitivity. Whether in dance, theatre, or music or digital arts, youths will be introduced through outdoor games and free art periods. They will also be able to participate in two daily workshops to create a piece as a group, which will then be presented.
Lastly, in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, sports fans will be able to spend their time with our Passion for Sports program (ages 7–12), offered at our George-Springate Park camp. During the week, at least 20 hours will be scheduled to participate in a sport (introduction to karate, rugby, soccer, pickleball, etc.), in addition to camp activities, outings and swimming.
