International Development Training - Looking at the world from another perspective.
What is the International Development Training?
The Y International Development Training, created by International Programs of The YMCAs of Québec is a means to inform, create interest and inspire reflection on world issues that touch us all.
The program consists of five 3-hour workshops given by different presenters with expertise in their field. Presenters raise awareness of issues that affect us and the global community and how we, as individuals, can bring about positive change through our daily life choices. Many participants have told us that this program has changed their lives. Some have even made career changes to better reflect their commitment to "practice what they preach".
Goals of program
Inform: provide information on global issues that may not be found in the mainstream media.
Inspire: promote reflection on the relationship between one's lifestyle and global issues.
Motivate: inspire individuals to become engaged and proactive citizens.
Workshops
What is International Development?
In the first session, we explore various aspects of international development. What does it mean?
Does international involvement always contribute to positive development? What are the challenges within international development?
The “Third World” Debt
This is an interactive workshop, a type of social diagnosis of globalization and the impact that governments, institutions, and our lifestyles have on the “Third World”.
Human Rights
What do we mean by human rights on an international level? What is the status of human rights in the world? What are the impacts and challenges of globalization in relation to human rights?
The Environment
Through this progressive vision of development, we will see how an environmental approach is unavoidable and primary to ensuring real development.
Moving Beyond Information To Action
In this last session, we explore how, as responsible citizens, we can integrate what we have learned within our work, our lives and our communities to build a more just and equal world.
